The ''description'' is a summary of what the page is about.
A page's description might be a sentence or two or even a short paragraph (whereas a [[..:page:title|page's title]] may be a few words or a phrase).

* is displayed:
* in social cards ([[..:social:twitter|twitter]], [[..:social:facebook|facebook]], [[..:social:google|Google Rich Result]])
* in the [[docs:seo:serp|Search Engine Results Page]].
* in the [[docs:content:link|link default popup]] or the [[docs:content:link#preview|link preview tooltip]]. (Example for this page, hovering over this [[?preview|link]] will show you the description of this page in a tooltip)
* used in ''text-to-speech (TTS)'' (thanks to [[https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/speakable|Speakable]])
